At this one-hour class on food preservation, Emily Makrez, owner of F-Word Farm and educator on all things related to fermenting, farming, and foraging, will show you how to pickle what's in season to make the most of your harvest AND prevent food waste. We'll learn the principles of fermentation via a demonstration of how to make a carrot (or other seasonal) lacto-fermented pickle. The demonstration will include the basic principles of fermentation so you will leave with the knowledge and confidence to be able to safely ferment practically anything! We will also touch on the benefits of lacto-fermented food and how adding these foods to our diets are a benefit to our overall health.

Join Mill City Grows for our 10th Annual Community Seed Swap on Saturday, March 22, from 11am - 1pm! This year's event will be held at UMass Lowell University Crossing, 220 Pawtucket Street. 

Bring your seed packets to swap and share and take home free seeds for your home, school, or community garden! Get growing tips and garden knowledge from Mill City Grows and our community gardeners, PLUS enjoy related gardening demonstrations. This event is a MUST for anyone ready to kick off the spring planting season! 

Please note: You do not need to bring seeds to attend the swap!
FREE and open to the public, no RSVP required. 


Free parking will be available at UML's Salem Street Parking lot.
